Simpson Housing Services

"We depend on our volunteers. If we had to furnish the food and the staff, we wouldn't be here."
-Kay Murphy, Simpson Housing Services

There are 20,000 people without a home in Minnesota. A vast majority of those people are in the Twin Cities. Simpson Housing Services provides hot meals and free, secure sleeping areas for homeless people in our area. The lack of affordable housing in the Twin Cities area has kept Simpson Housing Services and its volunteers in constant demand.

Currently, Simpson operates two emergency shelters in Minneapolis. Both target men and women ages 18 and older. Besides food and shelter, guests also have access to employment, mental health and chemical dependency referrals. The shelters operate out of local church basements and are open overnight until 7:00 a.m.

In addition to ongoing financial support, Bell Mortgage employees also spend evenings at one of the two Simpson shelters, preparing and serving meals. Dinners are provided 365 days a year at the shelters. Itís the support of volunteers that makes each and every one of those meals possible. The Bell family is happy to be part of the important role Simpson Housing Services plays in thousands of local lives.
